IT'S TIME TO ROLL AND FEEL
For many years now, video games have become part of many people’s lives and, therefore, it is one of the largest industries in the world. On December 10, The Game Awards ceremony was held and due to the Covid-19 pandemic, like many other celebrations, the event was made virtually.
In today’s article, we want to comment on what The Games Awards are for all those people who do not know it yet, and most importantly, we will discover which was the big winner of the night and the most important awards.
The Game Awards are an awards gala in which the best video games of the year are chosen. These awards have been celebrated since December 5, 2014, and since then, they have been held at the AXIS Theater, in Las Vegas. The Game Awards are considered to be the successors of the Spike VGA / VGX Awards which became from 2003 to 2013 the premier video game ceremony.
Through these awards, it is intended to recognize and defend both creative and technical excellence in the global video game industry. For this, the best developers, players, and even famous people are brought together to transmit and celebrate all the progress of one of the best forms of entertainment.
As we mentioned before, this year, the event had to adapt to the new situation we are experiencing worldwide and it is for this reason that Geoff Keighley, the creator of the program, decided to hold the event through a great virtual show.
For this, three small sound stages located in Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo were created. In each of these sites, a minimum of attendees was allowed taking into account the people who were part of the production team and presenters. Besides, for all those who wanted to enjoy the gala, it was broadcast live through 45 different digital platforms.
It is important to highlight that during the Game Awards, not only is the award ceremony for the different categories held but also, through this event, new games are presented and made known. This year, twelve new games were released, including Dragon Age 4, Fall Guys, Warhammer 40,000 Darktide, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, or It Takes Two, the new game by Josef Fares.
The Last of Us II became the great winner of the Game Awards gala and the game developed by the Naughty Dog company won 7 awards, among which the best game of the year award stands out above all.
It is important to note that The Last of Us II was nominated for nine different categories and from these nominations, it was recognized in another 6 categories. Specifically, it won the award for best direction, best narrative, best action/adventure game, best sound design, the best performance for actress Laura Bailey, and the award for innovation in accessibility. This last award is a new category incorporated this year, where innovation in accessibility is considered for all those games that address the main accessibility characteristics.
The Last of Us II has become the most complete, extensive, and varied video game of Naughty Dog. But above all, it has turned into one of the video games that provide the greatest innovations in terms of narrative and visual level and it can be affirmed it is not just any video game for developers or users.

As mentioned in the previous section, The Last of Us II became the great winner of the night thanks to its 7 awards, even so, other video games that we will comment on below also stood out.
The Best Art Direction award went to Ghost of Tsushima, which was also nominated for major categories as Best Award of the Year or Best Narrative. The award for the Best Soundtrack category went to the Final Fantasy VII Remake video game and the Best Impact game went to Tell Me Why.
It is important to note that Hades was another of the nominees for Best Game of the Year and even though it failed to obtain this award, it won in the category for Best Action Game and Best Indie.
Finally, we want to comment on two great prizes of two great video games that have acquired great importance in recent months, thus becoming one of the most popular video games of the moment. Specifically, we are talking about Animal Crossing and Among Us. The first one took the award for Best Family Game and the second won the award for Best Mobile Game.
